Type 1 is a well graded granular sub base material used to construct the base of roads, driveways, and any kind of hard standing area that requires strength in it`s base. It is a well tried and tested stone used for many years as the default base layer material. Type 1 contains a good mix of angular aggregate sized stone from 40mm down to dust. Some builders use a membrane over the mot before any top stone to stop weeds coming through, popular depth between 4-8 inches for driveways.
